Wigan Athletic attacking midfield man Jordi Gomez has been speaking about tonight`s game with his former club Swansea and says although he enjoyed his time at the Liberty Stadium his loyalties now lie with the Latics.
Gomez, who played for La Liga side Espanyol, spent the 2008/09 season on loan with Swansea in their first season in the Championship, he had a very productive campaign knocking in 14 goals as the Swans narrowly missed out on the end of season promotion play-offs.
When Roberto Martinez left Swansea for Wigan his first act was to secure the transfer of Gomez from Espanyol, the Latics paid almost £2 million for his services, but a disappointing first season at the DW Stadium left many fans questioning the 25 year olds ability to play Premier League football, this campaign though Gomez seems more settled and he appears to be finding his feet at the club.
A run of first team games sees Gomez as joint top scorer at the club with three goals so far this season and much improved performances with the Spaniard more involved in play and not just a passenger in the team.
Speaking about tonight`s game Gomez said: ‘Swansea was a great move for me, but I am a Wigan player now and I will be doing all I can to help us win the game’
‘My loyalties are with Wigan and I will be trying to knock Swansea out of the cup.
‘We are in the last 16 and we will try to win the game and get through to the last eight.’
