Wigan Athletic Chief Executive, Jonathan Jackson, is absolutely chuffed to bits with the new TV deal agreed between the Premier League and broadcasters Sky TV and BT

The new deal, which will come into force at the start of the 2013/14 season, is for 3 years and is worth a staggering £3 billion to the Premier League, this will mean each club should receive a minimum of £60 million per season an average increase of just over £14 million

Speaking to the Latics official website about the new deal Jonathan Jackson said: ‘It’s an astonishing deal, much larger than those that have preceded it.

‘In basic terms it means that come the start of the 2013-14 season each of the 20 Premier League clubs will receive a much larger sum for the rights to broadcast live matches around the world.

‘That amount could be at least £10 million extra per season, which is a huge amount for any club.

‘Given our sound current financial situation, that money would open up so many possibilities for the Club in terms of facilities, youth development and player recruitment and ensure that any financial fair play measures are fully complied with.

‘Of course, we’re not getting too far ahead of ourselves, this does not happen until 2013 and we need to make sure we’re a part of the Premier League come that time, something we work tremendously hard towards every year.

‘We’ve just secured 15th spot, our best finish under Roberto Martinez’s stewardship, and we must improve upon that next season, but the primary objective will of course be to secure our status in the best league in the world.

‘If we can do that and continue progressing at the rate we have been then we’ll be able to benefit from the new deal.

‘However, our full focus remains on next season which promises to be as exciting as ever.’
