Paul Jewell is an absolute Wigan Athletic legend; he transformed our club from a third tier side into a Premier league outfit.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan said ‘It was with great reluctance that I accepted Paul’s resignation.

‘It was his decision to leave.

I believe Paul was the right man to carry this club forward, but he has decided that he has taken the club as far as he can and leave it for someone else to take over.

Whatever your thoughts about this last season, no one can argue that Jewell was the most successful manager in the clubs history.

He is an honest manager who tells it as it is, and although I agree that perhaps a change will be good for both club and manager, it`s a very sad day for all concerned.
