Wigan Athletic are closing in on Espanyol play maker Javi Márquez, the Daily Mail claim that a deal is set to be concluded with the 24 year old to bring him to the Latics despite reported interest from Spurs, Everton, Blackburn and Man City.

It was rumoured back in November that Espanyol had received a bid in the region of £4 million for Márquez and, at the time, Latics were thought to be the club that had made the bid.

The young attacking midfield man is believed to have opted for a move to Wigan ahead of the other interested clubs because the influence of Roberto Martinez, he feels he would settle in quicker and also allowed to display his talents at the Latics
