Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes that Latics recent signing Hendry Thomas is ready to follow in the footsteps of other Honduran players Wilson Palacios and Maynor Figueroa.

Both Palacios and Figueroa made huge impacts at the Latics, Palacios going on to be sold to Spurs for £14 million and Figueroa was the only Wigan player to have started every Premier League game last season and Thomas intends to keep the Honduras connection going.

When speaking to The Manchester Evening News Martinez said: ‘Hendry is determined to make an impact in the Premier League and is desperate to enjoy his football here at Wigan.

‘He was excited about joining us, we’ve tracked him for some time and we were the first club that showed an interest in signing him.

‘There is only one club for him. He’s settled in well.’
