Following the lengthy lay off due to a thumb injury, Paul Jewell confirmed today that Chris Kirkland will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder operation already taken place.

The operation was due to take place, on Kirkland`s injured shoulder, during the summer.

With him already missing the past few weeks and with Filan`s good form, it was decided to bring the operation forward.
Jewell hopes that Kirkland can put this behind him and kick the injury jinx into touch ready for next season.

With Filan set to leave in the summer and Pollitt also not guaranteed a contract renewal the Latics must be in the hunt for a new quality keeper to be back-up for Kirkland.

One better piece of news is that Fitz Hall is out for the remaining games.

Don`t get me wrong, ‘One Size` isn`t necessarily a bad player; I feel he is a good player with poor concentration, but we have been conceding far too many goals with him in the side.

Now is the time for cool heads at the back and players who are focused.

With Emerson Boyce back do you think Hall will be missed?
