Wigan Athletic took the lead after 2 minutes when a Jordi Gomez free kick was headed into his own goal by Hartlepool player Sam Collins.
An even first half saw Al-Habsi make an excellent save and Rodallega when through one on one put the ball straight at Hartlepool keeper Flinders.
