Vital Latics journalist Frank Ford takes a look at the current state of play in League 1:

League 1 Roundup

Six games have passed since the last round up, it is that time again, let’s take a look around SkyBet League 1. Most teams have now played 12 games, with some teams playing 11 due to international breaks. We are just over 1/4 done with the season already; let’s take a look at the top 6

Top 6
1. Walsall played 12 points 25
2. Burton played 12 points 25
3. Gillingham played 12 points 24
4. Bury played 12 points 23
5. Coventry played 11 points 22
6. Sheffield United played 12 points 20

Walsall are currently the league leaders with 25 points, largely due to only losing 1 game, which was against 4th place Bury. The Saddlers are led upfront by Tom Bradshaw who has 6 goals in 12 league appearances. The main reason for Walsall`s success has been their defense, who have only conceded 6 goals in 12 games, and have only conceded an unbelievable 2 goals away from home.

The hottest team in the league the last 6 games has been Bury who are undefeated in their last 9 league games including a string of 6 consecutive wins. Bury have been very successful scoring goals this season, with the third highest in the league with 23 goals in 12 games, led by former Latic Leon Clarke with 7. Bury will need to improve on the other side of the ball as their defense has conceded 17 goals this season if they want to be a promotion contender.

Now let’s take a look at the other end of the table.

Bottom 4
21. Oldham played 12 points 11
22. Blackpool played 11 points 11
23. Fleetwood played 12 points 9
24. Crewe played 12 points 9

Blackpool have found recent form after struggling to adjust to live in League 1. The Seasiders have won 3 of their last 6 and have a game in hand that could move them out of the bottom four with a win.

Oldham Athletic have a league high 8 draws and have only won 1 game all season. The Latics only win was on the third game of the season against fellow strugglers Fleetwood Oldham will need to be picking up more points if they want to move up in the table.
