Vital Latics member Marksparko gives us his run down on yesterdays performances from the men in view, he is finding it very difficult to pick out his man of the match, I’ll let him explain, over to you Mark:

It seems in recent times that there has always been one stand out player (usually Al-Habsi) in each of our games and the team hasn’t managed to produce a display in which all the players had a good game, but today, I’m going to have to give the MOTM vote a miss as I honestly don`t know.

Al-Habsi – Had no chance with the goal, collected his crosses, made 2 good saves and his kicking was excellent.

Boyce – Got forward a lot more than usual and was a threat, defended well apart from one time when i think it was Myiachi got the wrong side of him. Solid performance as always though.

Alcaraz – Seemed to be playing right back at times today, was quality in the air, when on a few rampaging runs forward and did well to nick the ball from in front of the strikers on many occasions.

Caldwell – Absolutely awesome today. Best performance ive seen him put in. De Zeeuw like at times. Won everything, beat Davies in the air time after time and set us off with a beautiful header. Captain’s performance.

Figueroa – Good in the air, good in the tackle, good on the ball. A lot of crucial blocks and crucial clearances. Seeing a lot more of the defensive side of his game lately.

Beausejour – What a player. Talented on the ball, good work ethic, great energy, strong, quick. Has it all. Reminds me of Valencia at times.

McCarthy- Looked to be nervous early on but grew and grew into into the game. Worked extremely well with the other James and the energy they provide to the midfield is fantastic.

McArthur – Best game in a Wigan shirt for this lad. Perhaps should have scored atlteast twice but it just shows he’s getting into those vital positions which we have struggled to get in all season to score goals. Deserved his goal. First to everything in that midfield.

Gomez – Dictated the pace of the game and made countless runs beyond the defence and offered some penetration. Great performance, kept the ball well for the team and even put in a few tackles!!!

Moses – Back to the Victor that we saw at the start of the season. Picking up the ball getting turned and running at defenders. Second goal was down to his determination to run with the ball into the box and managed to make the keeper spill the ball. Also set up countless oppurtunites and was a great outlet when we were defending the lead.

Di Santo – 100% quality today. Led the line better than any striker has for us this year. Held it up when he needed to, ran with it when he needed to, played people in and won his headers. Chased things down and was crucial to the chances we created.

Martinez – I thought it was odd he had, debatably, our two best players sat on the bench, but hats off to the man. His way of football completely played Bolton off the park today.

This kind of performance can give those players the belief they need to know that they are good enough to stay in this league. I believe now anyway.

What a great day.
