This weeks fans player ratings following our 2-0 away defeat by Aston Villa, are provided by Vital Latics member Jordan Griffin, aka wigan-latics, over to you Jordan:

Ali Al-Habsi – 9
Produced some amazing saves, by far our best player on the pitch, and without it him villa could have had a few more goals.

Emmerson Boyce – 6
His first game back with an alright performance, maybe should have done better to block Agbonlahor for their second goal.

Gary Caldwell – 5
The leader of a very poor and unorganised defence, consistently poor passes throughout the game yet with one or two vital blocks.

Maynor Figueroa – 5
For me he is not a centre back. Poor positioning and marking throughout the game, finding himself too close to Aanholt at leftback.

Patrick van Aanholt -6
Going forward he looked great, his left foot looks amazing. But like Figueroa his marking needs to be improved.

Victor Moses-7
One of the very few players that looked dangerous in our team, although in my opinion still not a patch on what N’Zogbia used to produce for us.

James McCarthy -5
Seems to have lost his form lately, and at times in the game he looked lost. He needs to improve before the Bolton game.

Ben Watson – 6
Same old story, linked up play making some decent passes, but defensively I feel he need to be braver. His corners were poor as usual except for one.

Momo Diame-7
He looked good going forward, although he needs to work on pace and getting into the box. Unfortunately he lost the ball for Agbonlahor to score.

Ronnie Stam – 5.5
He didn’t seem to be able to get into the game the same as he did against spurs.

Franco Di Santo – 7
Looked threatening at times, one or two good shots but that’s about it.

Subs:

James McArthur – 7
Got involved in the game, produced some great crosses that unfortunately no one looked bothered to get on the end of. He should start against Bolton.

Shaun Maloney -7
Again he got involved in the game, had some great dribbles and was great going forward and unlucky not to score.

Connor Sammon – was not playing long enough for a score.

Manager- 6.5
The team were producing some great passes at times, and made some good substitutions. But from a tactical point of view our defence was once again terrible, but to be fair we have had a few injuries. But again going forward we were uninspiring and lacked that flair that N’Zogbia gave us. And too many times we had absolutely no one in the box.

Martinez should also be looking to give players such as McArthur and Maloney starting positions, as too many players seem to be taking their place in the first team for granted.
