Following the Latics 2-0 win over QPR today at the DW Stadium, Vital Wigan members and Latics supporters loudmouthblue, DiamesLoveChild, lathamwafc and timmo92 give their ratings for the players and the reasons why they gave them the scores that the did.

So without further ado

loudmouthblue:
Al-Habsi – 8
did everything he needed to when called on which was much too close for comfort at times – the save he made from the deflected free kick at the end of the first half which he pushed onto the post was top class.

Boyce – 7
Boyce is Boyce, steady performance and little fuss needs to hoof it at times instead of trying to play it.

Caldwell – 6
typical Caldwell display, Jekyll and Hyde performance excellent at times and shocking at others, needs to stop diving in from the back and giving away free kicks in dangerous areas

Lopez – 7
timing and footballing ability was good today, made a couple of crunching tackles, needs to be alot stronger at times but game time will see him improve, i hope.

Figueroa – 5
positioning poor, didn`t stop any crosses coming in once again, and his passing was abysmal, gets forward well though on the plus side, badly needs some competition for his place he has gone backwards as a player.

Watson – 6
some nice touches, played very deep today and failed to mix it with qpr’s midfield which is usually his job, his deadballs need to improve.

Diam̩ Р6
at times looked a pure thoroughbred, needs to see a pass better and be more careful when playing simple balls into the forwards, overall a steady but not inspiring display, which he is capable of.

Gomez – 6
I would have given Gomez a higher score but he gets caught in possession far to much and slows play down when it needs to be quickened, but the move into the center suited him much better, but he is far too slow for the premiership.

Moses – 6
seems to be lacking in confidence and this effects his game – he didnt run at the defenders enough today when one on one – but he will develop and get better with more games.

Rodallega – 8
looked a lot sharper today and playing with a genuine partner in di santo he looked very dangerous and some better passes from midfield would have given him a goal his pace gave qpr problems all day

Di Santo – 9 (MOM)
Di Santo has looked a different player this season he works hard and links up well, i have been saying all along all he needs is a goal and it showed after his first one – he looked a yard quicker and very dangerous and gave QPR’s defenders a hard time, i only hope that his goals help him to push on and develop, he has undoubted talent so why shouldn’t he, he linked up with rodellega today better than any forwards we have seen for a few years.

timmo92:

Al Habsi- 8 some good saves, especially from Taarabt pushing one on to the post

Figgy- 7 – was alright nothing of note really

Caldwell-8- Stupid booking, led well and was good in the air

Piscu-6- was good at everything that didn`t require much thinking, ie tackles and headers. He put in an absolute thumper at one point but he is a liability in his distribution and doesn`t listen to the players around him

Boyce-8- had an outstanding first half run and was always busy, one negative was him messing around on their near penalty decision, he should have hoofed it.

Moses-7- not really seeing an end product, hopefully will come.

Diame-6- showed his usual drive and fight but played some awful passes in around our box, needs to wake up more

Gomez-7- still a little slow on the ball but getting better by the game, genuinely think he has something to offer this season.

Watson-7- another solid game from Benny boy, one errant pass in the first half but other than that was solid.

Hugo-8- was clearly a cut above in terms of talent, QPR couldn’t tackle him. Don`t remember him having a shot but he played very well

Di Santo-9- was everywhere today and i mean everywhere, took his first goal well and the second one was a bit luckier. Hopefully given him the confidence to continue to improve

lathamwafc:

Al-Habsi – 7 – did his job, didn`t have a lot to do.

Boyce – 8 – Great runs down the right and helped Moses out a lot.

Caldwell – 6 – played ok, nothing special, no mistakes.

Lopez – 7 – Nothing fancy, simple, solid defender who did everything he needed to.

Figueroa – 6 – did his job at LB and made some decent runs down the left.

Gomez – 8 – another great performance from him, good passing and shame he left on a bad spell of about a minute.

Watson – 8 – great passing, simple play and good in the tackle.

Diame -6 – poor for me, passing was a bit off.

Rodallega – 8 – looked up for it, lots of energy and work rate.

Di Santo – 10 – best game for us, 2 goals, threatening all game.

Moses – 6 – wasn’t involved enough for me, Boyce was our main threat down the right.

Sammon – 5 – isn’t good enough; we didn’t look like scoring when he came on.

McArthur – 7 – looked solid, went forward well and came back well.

Stam – was only on for 5 mins.

DiamesLoveChild:

Ali Al Habsi – 7 | I thought Ali went and did his job today, did great when he was called up on and was very steady and made some good saves!

Emmerson Boyce – 7 | Did his job, was good attacking and was a good option for Moses, thought he was very consistent!

Gary Caldwell – 6 | Hmm, i thought he was not as good as he could be today, he made quite a few silly passes and could of cost us.

Piscu – 8 | Thought he carried in the middle today; he made a lot of interceptions and distributed very well!

Figueroa – 6 | Not his best game by far, he made quite a lot of dodgy passes and tackles, he didn`t keep him man, but when attacking he was alright; you know he was not at his best.

Watson – 7 | Got the ball deep, passed it really well, actually was quite strong, i love his passes and he does link up well.

Gomez – 8 | Very good performance by him, I thought he was the midfielder who got it wide, got it too Di Santo and was supporting all the attacking outlets, he did die down a bit in the later game but he showed some great touches and passes, good job!

Diame – 7 | I thought he was really good IMO he got the ball and ran with it a lot, good touch, good pace and direct, though we was not as involved as Gomez, but still he is a quality player.

Moses – 6 | He looks a bit injured for me, he defiantly has the quality, he did some good runs and linked well but further the game went on, he started to feel his injury.

Rodallega – 9 | MOTM, Every time he got the ball, deep or up field, he showed great pace and ran right at the defence, set up both Di Santos goals practically and showed his desire.

Di Santo – 9 | MOTM as well, although he took his 2 goals well, which one showed fantastic technique his work rate and hold up player cannot be ignored, he ran all game, held up well, passed when needed, He also showed a lot of pace!
