Latics players Roger Espinoza and Juan Carlos Garcia suffered World Cup heartbreak last night after Honduras relinquished a one goal lead to lose to Ecuador.

Although not out, their task to get beyond the group stages is now an extremely difficult one with just a final group game left to play. Anything less than a Honduras victory against Switzerland on Wednesday in Manaus will see Los Catrachos out, whilst they will still be depending upon an already qualified France to beat Ecuador.

The Swiss don’t look any great shakes and the fact that the game is being played in the sauna that is Manaus will help Roger and co, but it is still a big ask and you can’t help but feel their chance slipped by last night.

The game against Ecuador was a competitive affair and there wasn’t a lot between the sides, but it was quality up front that decided the game with Eder Valencia scoring the two goals that defeated Honduras, whilst strikers Carlo Costly and Jerry Bengston lacked any real intelligent movement for the Hondurans.

Chile are left flying the Latics flag though and I have a feeling Jean Beausejour and his crew could go all the way.
