The will he ,won’t move of Steve Bruce to Sunderland, is damaging Wigan Athletic and must be ended soon.

Whatever the reasons behind the prospective move and it appears lack of money/cost cutting is a principle factor,the drawn out will he/won’t he go may impact on transfers, contract signings and season ticket sales.

Regarding transfers, highly rated Matthew Bates was apparently lined up by Steve Bruce to sign from Middlesboro’. This move now appears on hold due to the managerial uncertainty and West Ham are now rumoured to be moving in on the highly rated 22 year old.

Whilst both young Tomasz’s Kupisz and Cwyka ,along with Mike Pollitt have penned new deals this week the key players such as Scharner, Bramble and Boyce remain unsigned . All three have twelve months left on their contracts and have been attracting attention from other clubs.
No one could blame them for waiting to see who the new manager will be and if the rumours of a wage bill cut is in the offing they may decide to look elsewhere, which will severely weaken the team.

Much is made of Wigan’s cheap season ticket prices and whilst this is true, the fans, most of whom live in the WIgan enviromens, in one of the poorest boroughs in the country do not have much disposable income.

As such, a sale of their most prizable assets is not going encourage season ticket renewals. Already I have spoken to several fans who are deferring renewing their season tickets, in a ‘wait and see’ exercise based on manager and playing squad.

A sale of players plus a cheap managerial option, is not going to persude fans to pay up front with some opting to pick their games.

The lack of any official statement from the club ,on either its website or by any other media outlets is more reminescent of the Kremlin in the 70’s rather than a football club.

Once again, Wigan is looking more like a Northern Premier League club off the pitch, rather than a Premier League club.
