Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce feels that Latics and Sweden left back Erik Edman is still two months away from being back to his best.

Edman suffered a horrific knee ligament injury at Blackburn last January when clearing the ball from the Latics penalty box and he has only been back in training since late October.

The classy left back is making good progress though and Bruce says it will be good to have him back around the place, Bruce told the press:

‘Erik has been training for the best part of three or four weeks and played in two reserve games.

‘It was a bad injury he had and I don’t think we’ll be seeing the best of him for another couple of months yet.

‘He’s physically right to train, but he has to get over the mental barrier now.

‘I’ve always believed that if you’ve been out for say six months with a serious injury, it’s another six months on top of that before you’re back to your best.

‘We hope Erik can be quicker than that because it would be fantastic to have him around again.

‘He did very well for us in the games he played last season, but we have to make sure he’s right before bringing him back.’
