Wigan Athletic left back Erik Edman suffered what appears to be a ruptured anterior ligament in the game at Ewood Park yesterday and will miss the rest of this season and the start of next.

The former Spurs player cleared the ball from Blackburn front man Jason Roberts and then fell awkwardly twisting his knee in the process.

Latics boss Steve Bruce said ‘It looks like a ruptured anterior ligament and that will be diagnosed in the next 24 hours and if that is the case he is going to be out since September or October time.’

The injury blow couldn`t have come at worse time for player or club, Edman, who joined in the January transfer window, has become a regular in the side after overcoming a calf muscle injury.

The club have no other left back on the books and it will be a case of Kevin Kilbane filling in once more as the club face the critical run in to the end of the season and with at least another 7 points needed for Premiership safety hopefully the position wont become a weak link.
