Paul Cook has completed his first signing as Wigan Athletic boss with centre-back Chey Dunkley agreeing to join after his contract at Oxford United expires at the end of this month.

The 25-year-old, who has signed a three-year contract at the DW Stadium, won promotion to League One with Oxford last year.

He also helped the U`s reach the Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley Stadium in each of the last two seasons.

A youth product of the Crewe Alexandra academy, Dunkley made his senior debut during a loan spell with Hednesford Town in 2010.

The Wolverhampton-born defender was released by the Railwaymen in the summer of that year before immediately joining Hednesford on a permanent basis.

He spent two campaigns with the Pitmen before moving on to former Football League side Kidderminster Harriers in 2012.

Dunkley enjoyed a successful three-year spell at Aggborough before being snapped up by Oxford boss Michael Appleton in 2015 following a short but effective loan spell at the Kassam Stadium.
