Following reports earlier in the month linking Wigan Athletic striker Conor Sammon with a loan move to Championship club Derby County, it now appears that Rams boss Nigel Clough is looking to secure the big Irish striker on a permanent deal

Rumours of Derby making the Latics a bid in the region of £1.2 million are doing the rounds, a price, if true, that the Latics may find hard to turn down for the former Kilmarnock striker

It will be interesting to see if Sammon travels with the Latics squad for their preseason game against Celta Vigo in Spain later today
