Wigan Athetic’s deadline for Sunderland to decide whether they will pay the asking price for Steve Bruce has passed without comment.
Wigan set the deadline of last night but all the media outlets today seem certain of one thing…. that Steve Bruce will be unveiled as the Sunderland manager sometime this week.
The Daily Mirror reports that this could be as early as today.
The amount of compensation is expected to be significantly less than that demanded by Wigan.
Bruce’s move appeared to have hit the buffers yeasterday, when media reports carried ‘quotes’ from Roberto Mancini, saying he was flattered to have been offered the Sunderland job.These however, were refuted by both Sunderland and Mancini’s agent.
Dave Whelan has said that he will not consider looking for a replacement, until it is confirmed that Bruce is going but media reports have old boys Paul Jewell and Roberto Martinez as the front runners.
