Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan is hoping to keep boss Roberto Martinez at the club for the foreseeable future, speaking following the announcement that Martinez is going nowhere with regards to last weeks speculation, Whelan said that there are two years left on the Spaniards contract and he will be looking to get that extended.

It appears that Whelan is set to fully back the Martinez revolution at the Latics, heavy investment into the youth set up, new indoor pitches and the training ground rebuild are all part of the plan to keep Roberto sweet

Speaking to the press Whelan said: ‘We want Roberto to be happy at Wigan and we’ll be aiming to make sure we do everything to help him’

‘We’ve discussed a lot of things and it was a productive afternoon. He’s got two years left on his current contract and we will be looking to extend that.

‘We’ve also agreed to build up the academy and the training facilities.’
