Latics Danny Redmond has joined League 1 side Carlisle United on loan until the 8th March the club have confirmed.
The left sided player has found it difficult to break into the first team squad at the DW Stadium, despite being skipper of the second string and putting in some sterling displays he’s only featured once this season and that was in the Capital Cup defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium back in September.
Redmond spent part of the 2011/12 season on loan at Scottish club Hamilton where he scored five goals in eighteen appearances for the Accies.
Carlisle boss and ex-Latics Graham Kavanagh is very pleased with his capture, he watched Redmond in action as lately as last Tuesday when the Latics Development played hosts to and beat Carlisle 2-1 at the Robin Park Arena.
Kavanagh told commented – ‘Danny will give us a number of different options. He’s left footed and he can play in a number of positions.
‘We haven’t really got the type of player who can thread the ball through and split defences so he will bring that for us. He sees gaps and openings and with his mobility and energy he is very difficult to mark. I’ve spoken to him this morning [Friday] and he is over the moon that he’s here.
‘It’s refreshing to see that attitude because he has shown me that he really wants it.
‘He’s been a little bit unlucky because Roberto Martinez really liked him, but he moved on. He’s had two other managers since then, Owen Coyle and Uwe Rösler, so it can become hard to make your mark and find some continuity.
‘He’s one we think will really add to the group so it’s now up to him to settle as quickly as possible and show everyone what he can do.’
Redmond won’t go too far wrong with Kav looking after him, good move for all concerned.
