Michael Jacobs may have missed out on Sky Bet’s Player of the Month award to Portsmouth’s Brett Pitman, but he could still yet save some grace.

The 25-year-old’s superb strike in the 1-0 win over his former club Northampton Town has earned him a nomination for the September Goal of the Month award.

Jacobs faces competition from Bradford City defender Tony McMahon and Fleetwood United striker Devante Cole.

McMahon’s free-kick in the 1-0 win at Northampton and Cole’s thunderous volley in a 1-4 defeat to Portsmouth will provide tough competition for Latics’ playmaker.
