It never rains but it pours, following the double fracture to Ben Watsons right leg two weeks back the Latics have had some more bad news concerning fellow midfield man Chris McCann who has been confirmed as suffering a multiple fracture of his patella (knee cap) in Sundays FA cup quarter-final win over Manchester City.
McCann was in collision with City player Micah Richards shortly before half time, they both went for the ball in full force in a 50/50 challenge, their knees coming together with a sickening blow that left both players reeling, although McCann struggled on for the final few minutes of the first half he was in obvious discomfort and was replaced after the break by Leon Barnett.
The former Burnley man has been in great form of late and will be sorely missed during the run in to the end of this campaign, speaking about McCann Latics boss Uwe Rösler said – ‘Chris McCann is worse than we expected
‘He has a multiple fracture of the right patella, he is at the moment with Andy Williams a leading specialist in London’
‘We are awaiting the outcome of that meeting but obviously he is a long term injury now’
‘We always do it the hard way, we lost Ben, we lost Chris, two players who since I came to the club have been regular first teamers’
‘They been starters in most of the games and it’s another blow, but I feel sorry for the player, he cemented his place in the team and then that happens’
‘We wish him a speedy recovery’
