Doncaster Rovers have tonight confirmed the loan signing of Latics goalkeeper Chris Kirkland who will be at the South Yorkshire club until January at least.

Kirkie hasn’t made a Premier League appearance since last season’s 1-1 draw with Bolton at the Reebok, a game in which the one cap England international had to be carried off the field of play after making a brave save at the feet of Bolton striker Elmander.

Doncaster Rovers have publicly thanked Latics assistant boss Graeme Jones for his assistance in setting up the transfer and also the Latics for agreeing to part pay Kirkland’s wages.

The statement on Doncaster’s official website reads: Rovers would like to thank the Latics assistant manager and former Belle Vue striker Graeme Jones for his help with the transfer, and Wigan for their assistance with Kirkland’s wages during his loan spell.
