Wigan Athletic midfield man Charles N`Zogbia has his eyes set on a place in the England squad for this summers World Cup finals in South Africa, impossible I here you cry, he is after all French, well not for much longer he isn`t, read on.

The 23 year old former Newcastle United player and soon to be former Frenchman is set to be granted English citizenship due to him being resident in the country for the past six years and although he has represented France at under 16 and under 21 level he hasn`t played for the full France side in a competitive match so according to FIFA rules he is eligible, if picked to play for England.

So he is eligible then, but is he good enough?

N`Zogbia`s game has come on so much this season that he looks like a new player, he is full of confidence, he takes on markers and skins them for pace, he goes on mazy runs dribbling past two, three, four or even five opponents with consummate ease on a regular basis, opposing managers have started to assign two defenders to mark him during games but he still gets the better of them and he has been scoring some super goals this season.

His delivery of pass has been of the highest quality and he has six assists so far this season.

He is left footed but he`s played most of the season on the right showing that he is comfortable on either side of the pitch and don`t forget he can fill in at left back, not only is he good enough but he is also highly versatile and would be a fantastic asset to the squad.

So he`s eligible, good enough and versatile enough but would he be willing to play for England, after all he is a Frenchman?

Speaking to the French football magazine France Football N`Zogbia made it clear that he is ready to turn his back on his birth nation for his adoptive country, he says that its his dream to play in the World Cup and if England would give him that chance he`d seize it.

N`Zogbia says: ‘I think in France people don’t even look at me, even though I played for the U21s for a year-and-a-half’

‘The dream of any player is to play at the World Cup. If I get an opportunity (with England) I will seize it, because I only have two weeks to wait until I get my double citizenship.

‘There would not be a problem because I know English football very well and I speak the language.’

Well it looks like its all down to you Fabio, go on give the lad a chance.
