Captain Kilbane Speaks

Due to Mario Melchiot being sidelined with illness the Wigan Athletic captain on Saturday was Kevin Kilbane and he wore the arm band with pride as he filled his now usual left back slot for the game against the league leaders Arsenal

Killer took a lot of stick from the fans last season but this time round there is hardly a bad word said against the Irishman from just up the M6 in Preston, even though he has played all season out of position.

Revealing he is enjoying his switch from midfield to left back Killer told Sky Sports:

‘At the start of the season Leighton Baines moved to Everton and I was the only left-footer at the club at the time, so we just didn’t have anybody who played the position before.

‘I have been enjoying it though, I really have.’

Talking about yesterdays game Killer said the Latics had showed a bit more ‘fight and spirit` than they had been doing in recent games.

He also said that they were solid throughout the team, and that for the rest of the season they have to be together.

Killer believes that new manager Steve Bruce will be looking to bring in some players leaving some of the current crop unsure about their futures but he said that there is a chance to impress

Kilbane has been one of the few pluses for the Latics this season, although not a left back he as filled the position and not let anyone down but in January surely the signing of a specialist left back must be a priority

Who’d have thought captain Kilbane?
