Steve Bruce is set to be named the new manager of Wigan Athletic early next week with his current employers Birmingham City agreeing a compensation deal with Latics chairman Dave Whelan
Bruce would also love to bring along his assistant Eric Black and first team coach Keith Bertchin but there is a stumbling block there as Brum want the pair to run their club until a new manager can be brought in
The deal, thought to be worth around the £3 million mark, hopefully signals the clubs intent to start spending in the transfer market
I am sure that Bruce would not contemplate joining the JJB set up if his hands were to be tied in the January window and the usual policy of one in one out must also be abandoned if we are to build a squad capable of staying in this division
The appointment of Steve Bruce will be good for Wigan Athletic; he is a well known and respected manager with Premiership experience, he is also a hard task masters and expects his teams to give 100%
The sooner he starts the better
