Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce says that he is ready to make his move for Liverpool wingman Jermaine Pennant who has just finished a loan spell with tomorrows opponents Portsmouth

Bruce signed Pennant from Arsenal when he was manager of Birmingham and though he had a bad boy image Bruce managed to get the best out of the winger which eventually led to a big money move to Liverpool.

During his time at Birmingham Pennant was convicted of drink driving and following a short stretch in prison he had to have an electronic tag fitted which seemed to curb his off the field extravagances and aided his on the field performances, Bruce says:

‘He did particularly well for me, but is going to have to get the tag back on. He was sensational in the last 10 games of the season when he was wearing it.

‘If the inevitable happens and we lose Luis Antonio Valencia then he is someone I am interested in.’
