Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce said that he was glad to see the back of October with his team suffering defeats from Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Fulham with Latics falling down the table like a leaf falling to the ground, he told reporters:

‘I’ll be glad to see the back of October, that is for sure. It’s been a poor month for us, we’ve lost all four games, so roll on November.

‘What we need to do is go back to doing the basics, try and find a formula to win a couple of matches.”

With last nights game against Fulham a very poor showing from the Latics Bruce said he will question himself over his team selection, there were many tired performances right through the side, he continued:

‘The performance against Fulham was arguably the worst since I’ve been here, I can’t really take many positives out of it.

‘I will question myself over the next 24 or 48 hours as to why that was. Certainly, last night we were nowhere near producing what we are capable of.

‘There have been times this season when things haven’t gone our way, we’ve not got the points which our performances have warranted.

‘But that wasn’t the case last night, whether it was hangover from Aston Villa on Sunday, I don’t know. I’ll be questioning myself as to whether I picked the right team or not.

“We had too many individuals playing poorly – that hasn’t happened to us this season until now. If I’m being honest, we could have conceded more than two.”

Once again Bruce has found himself questioning his defence and the two goals conceded last night were both through defensive failings, one leaving Johnson unmarked in the middle of the goal and the other heads down at a free kick getting completely caught, Bruce continued:

‘Both goals were poor ones to concede, for the first one the cross came over far too easily and Johnson was stood on his own six yards out to stick it in the net.

‘The second goal we switched off from a free-kick straight in front of us, 11-year-olds wouldn’t do that.

‘As a former defender who always tries to make sure we are organised as much as possible, that is not acceptable at this level.

‘Just over two weeks ago we were playing Liverpool and gave them one hell of a game, only just losing it right at the end.

Unfortunately, we have got our backsides kicked in the last two games, that’s something we need to put right quickly.’

Four defeats on the bounce will leave questions to be answered, lets hope we can find the answers in time so there wont be a fifth
