Bruce counts down the days

Steve Bruce, a self confessed transfer windowphobe, will no doubt wake up today wishing it was the 3rd of February and that the window was closed.

Wigan have more than punched above their weight this season, albeit with a very small squad.

This form has attracted bigger clubs looking to try and bargain buy in the window, with Heskey and Valencia being the two most linked with a move.

The latest player being linked with a move is Michael Brown to Hull City.

With Pollitt, Taylor, Kilbane and Heskey all out of contract in the summer, this means that they are all free to talk to other clubs from today regarding a free transfer, when their contracts expire in the summer.

There is no doubt that Bruce will be looking to bring players, with Hugo Rodellega, Jermaine Pennant and Maruis Lewandoski the latest prospective targets.

It is important however that players are brought in to strengthen the squad, not as replacements and Bruce must be hoping the JJB phones are off line for the next four weeks.
