Wigan Athletic defender Emerson Boyce says that the Latics need to carry on the good work of the Burnley win at Portsmouth and forget about the Chelsea and Manchester City games.
The Bermuda international explains that although getting results against the big clubs is nice, it is the bread and butter matches that the Latics need to win, saying its not much use beating Chelsea then losing at Burnley, speaking to the clubs official website Boyce says: ‘These are the important games for us. It’s nice for the players and the supporters to get results against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
‘But we need to beat teams like Portsmouth and Burnley because they are the teams who are going to be around us in the table.
‘If we get a good result against someone like Chelsea and then lose at somewhere like Burnley, it’s going to be a difficult season for us.
‘Luckily we showed our character in backing up and getting a result at Burnley and we’ll be looking for the same at Portsmouth.’
