The Latics faced a difficult trip to Dean Court in this FA Cup 3rd round replay, but, thanks to an 18th minute Mauro Boselli goal, they managed to end Bournemouth’s 18 match unbeaten sequence and progress through to round 4 and a trip to non-league Macclesfield Town

Martinez gave a debut to new signing Roger Espinoza and a first start for loanee Angelo Henriquez, but it was Boselli who grabbed the headlines with a twenty yard drive into the top corner for his fourth goal of the season

Up until the goal Bournemouth had just shaded the opening proceedings but the sting had been taken out of them as the Latics started to confidently knock the ball around. Bournemouth though worked hard and got themselves going again, O’Kane rattled the bar with a very good effort and the Latics were somewhat holding on as the half time whistle blew

Bournemouth had their tales up in the second half, but it was the Latics who got the ball in the net, Roman Golobart heading home from an Espinoza corner only for the referee to rule it out for pushing

As the game grew on Bournemouth did most of the pressing, whilst the Latics were happy to play on the counter. Boselli had a great chance from a break, heading a Henriquez cross goal bound but for a very good save from Bournemouth keeper Jalal

Substitute Nouha Dicko should have made the game safe with a late chance, unfortunately he fired wide with the goal at his mercy. As the game drew to a close the Latics were almost left ruing Dicko’s miss, first Pugh hit the bar, then Al Habsi had to be alert to push over an effort from Tubbs

Over the two games Bournemouth have proved to be a classy team but it’s the Latics that are going through to face Macclesfield in the next round. Job done, plus Fyvie, Espinoza and Golobart all look like they have a decent future with the club.
