David Perkins has scored a goal for Wigan Athletic. Not the usual introduction to a match report, but some things deserve that extra limelight. Anyway, Wigan came from 1-0 behind at Blackpool to win 1-3 and extend their unbeaten streak to six games.

The goals came from two unlikely sources in Chey Dunkley and David Perkins, but with Will Grigg missing, it’s increasingly important that everyone chips in with goals.

Blackpool took the lead early after an awful mistake from Dunkley (we’ll forgive him now). The defender attempted to head back to Jamie Jones, but looped the ball over him, allowing Kyle Vassell to tap-in to the empty net.

Latics responded well and almost equalised through Nick Powell’s effort which was well saved. We made our pressure tell and equalised just before the break. After an almighty scramble in Blackpool’s penalty area, Dunkley fired home.

On 54 minutes, Gavin Massey’s low shot was saved, the rebound fell to guess who? That man Dunkley, he made no mistake and gave Wigan the lead.

Cometh the hour cometh the man. No goal since May 2011. What a time to end your goalscoring drought than at Blackpool away. All jokes aside, Perkins finished very well from 12 yards to double our advantage and send the 2,100 travelling fans crazy.

Seven points in a week is a very good return, which sees us eight points clear of 3rd placed Bradford City. I don’t want to get too carried away, but if any team manages to make up an eight point deficit, I’d be amazed. We are playing with confidence, defence is solid on the whole and the goals are starting to flow.

Onto Blackburn, another big one.

Up the tics.
