Steve Bruce takes his merry men up the M65 for todays clash with Lancashire neighbours Blackburn and if we don`t get something from the game regardless of Bruce`s comments the season will have fizzled out.

With two defeats from the last two matches we are in danger of being accused of already getting out the sun tan lotion and we cant let that happen to a season that promised so much, we don`t want to finish on a low.

Something from today and a win next week against Horwich and it will set up the run in nicely for a little challenge on that Europa spot anything less and the balloon would have definitely been burst.

Blackburn have some serious issues on their mind and they are hovering precariously above the trap door, their saving grace being that the bottom three are truly awful teams and don`t look good enough to put any pressure on Rovers, having said that Sam Allardyce will want to put as much distance between themselves and 17th place as possible

I`m not looking for a classic today but I think we will be too good and can see a comfortable win in the end and hopefully witness my first victory in what will be my fifth visit to Ewood.

What the bosses say:

Latics boss Steve Bruce:

‘The one thing I am determined to do is to not let the season fizzle away. We have done extremely well this season and I just detected something after the Hull game.

‘Getting through that magical 40-point mark, everybody was talking about how well we’d done and the fact we were safe again.

‘Last year it took us until the penultimate game of the season, and the year before it was the very last kick of the season to be safe, and I just want to take the club away from that mentality.

‘We know our limitations at Wigan, and we know we are punching above our weight, but we have to make sure we try and finish the season off as strongly as we possibly can.’

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce:

I think you’re definitely going to be safe with 40 points.

‘It’s all about getting to that marker and doing it as a quickly as we can. We’ve got to start on Sunday with a positive result – hopefully a win.

‘We also need to put to bed the two defeats on the trot – you can ill afford, no matter where you are in the league, to lose three games on the trot.’
