Wigan Athletic said a sad farewell to Charles N’Zogbia as he agreed a 5 year deal today at Aston Villa, which will keep him at the club until 2016.

Many Wigan fans will have been pleased of the contribution that Charles made over the past couple of years, most notably his winning goals against Arsenal and West Ham, which were important goals that kept Wigan Athletic safe in the Premier League in both respective seasons.

Charles goes with our best wishes and hopefully it will see his career progress so that he can play for a Champions League club and show off the talent he undoubtedly has and I’m sure that one day he’ll get his wish.

Nevertheless, the loss of Charles N’Zogbia has left a void at the midfield at Wigan Athletic but with players like Robert Snodgrass linked to the winger position and Moses tipped to play in N’Zogbia’s role, it might be a fruitful season.

The Latics media release reads:

Wigan Athletic have confirmed that France international Charles N`Zogbia has been sold to Aston Villa, for an undisclosed fee.

Having rejected an initial bid, a second, improved bid was accepted earlier this week and the 25 year-old has now agreed terms and passed a medical at Villa Park.

Latics manager Roberto Martinez said: “We`re all disappointed to lose a player like Charles N`Zogbia who has been fantastic for Wigan Athletic over the last two years and who we feel has grown as a player in that time too.

“There have been some very enjoyable moments during his time at the club, he made his international debut with France and scored his first goal for his country whilst a Wigan Athletic player, memories I`m sure he`ll always treasure as we will.

“Now is the time for him to move on to a club who have matched the market valuation for him and allow us to move on, reinvest and take our football club onto another level.”

N`Zogbia cost a club record fee when he signed from Newcastle United in January 2009 and has scored 15 goals in 83 Premier League appearances for Latics, with another three cup goals in seven appearances.
