The Latics and Walsall have met 31 times down the years.

Latics have 13 wins, Walsall 11, draws 7.

Not an awful lot between the two clubs in terms of results, all but four of the meetings, a 3rd round FA cup tie in 1996 and a LDV Trophy game in 2001 which we lost both of, plus two League Division 1 (Championship) games, have come in one of the bottom two divisions of the Football League.

The first meeting was in the old Division 4 in December 1979, a 1-1 draw at Fellows Park, the return fixture that season at Springfield Park, in April 1980 ended up a 3-0 win for the Latics.

We had to wait five and a half years before we next got the better of our friends from down the M6, but then went on a ten year run, 1985-95, without suffering defeat to the Saddlers.

The last meeting was a goalless draw at the DW Stadium earlier this campaign.
