Latics and Wolves have met 15 times down the years, all but one of the last seven of these coming in the Premier League.

Latics 6 wins, Wolves 5, draws 4.

A stand out game between the two clubs was the Boxing Day clash in 2010, made famous by the travelling banana men and a goal apiece for Hugo Rodallega and Tom Cleverley to give us a 2-1 victory. Latics didn’t have to wait long in the game to take the lead, on nine minutes a second corner in quick succession was headed out to the edge of the box, James McArthur put the ball back in, Gary Caldwell flicked his heal at the ball looping it up and onto the edge of the six yard box where Hugo Rodallega was waiting.

The Colombian hit man swivelled smartly and fired across Hennessey into the bottom far corner, a great poachers goal and the Latics were in the ascendancy.

On 20 minutes Rodallega picked up the ball from a throw-in just outside the 18 yard box, he slipped a wonderful through pass into the path of the oncoming Tom Cleverley who hit a side-footed shot first time under the body of Hennessey, 2-0 Latics in control.

Wolves scored a consolation late on but the banana men were dancing in the stands.

Banana -rama

Also who can forget the wonderful double that Emmerson Boyce scored the last time the two clubs met at the DW Stadium on the 13th May 2012, Latics ran out 3-2 winners in a highly entertaining game, Wolves had taken the lead through Matt Jarvis on 8 minutes, the then manager Roberto Martinez asked that the Latics gave a round of applause to signify our achievement of sustaining Premier League football for eight season, as this was going on Jarvis smacked in a cracking goal and the supporters just carried on applauding in the May sunshine.
