Let’s start with the bad news. The Latics have only beaten Norwich twice, the last time we met in March 2013, and the first time we met, that was in January 1987!

In fairness though we haven’t met the Canaries that often, just six meetings in the league and three in cup competitions

The record reads:

Latics 2 wins, Norwich 4, draws 3

The very first meeting between the two clubs, back in 1987, saw top flight Norwich City come to Springfield Park for a 4th round FA cup tie to face a cracking Latics side that were chasing promotion from the 3rd Division

Ken Brown’s Norwich were an established big boys club and firm favourites to win the tie, but the Latics faithful knew we had something special that season, under Ray Mathias we were playing scintillating football and had a team consisting of the likes of Bobby Campbell, David Lowe, Paul Jewell, Chris Thompson, Paul Beesley and veteran keeper Roy Tunks

Paul Jewell scored the only goal of the game to set us on the road for our best ever FA cup run making the quarter finals until we actually won it in May 2013.

The goal by Jewell that beat Norwich that day is at the end of the video below, well worth a look
