Latics and Leeds have met ten times down the years, three of those meetings coming in the FA Cup and the Latics just have the edge:

Latics have 5 wins, Leeds 3, draws 2

The first meeting between the two sides came back on the 14th March 1987 in the 6th round of the FA cup. The game took place at Springfield Park on a Sunday with a 12 noon kick off, Ray Mathias’ Latics were going strong in the old 3rd division, playing attractive football and scoring lots of goals, in contrast, although a division higher Billy Bremner’s Leeds side were struggling near the foot of the table.

Home advantage made the Latics slight favourites to progress through to the semi-finals, but on the day the occasion appeared to get the better of us and despite numerous chances to score it was Leeds who found the goals and won the game 2-0.

Relegation confirmed at the weekend, but in reality we all knew it had been coming for quite a while now.

20 attempts at goal away at Reading, yet we still managed a nil return, that is now 22 games where we have drawn a blank this season.

We run through the managerial candidates and despite a large number of names in the running three of the panel go for the same guy, the name might surprise you.

Leeds up on Sunday at 12 noon, then the curtain will fall on a very disappointing season.

Don’t forget the latest All Gone Latics Fanzine will be on sale before the Leeds game and also at the Latics Legends game on the 19 May

Shout out to the gang at the Mudhutter for their great gesture to the Josephs Goal charity.
