Latics and Bury have already met three times this season and we haven’t won once, with a Capital One cup tie at the DW Stadium, a League 1 clash and an FA Cup tie at Gigg Lane already taken place since the start of the season and now we face each other for hopefully the final time this campaign in another league encounter, this time at the DW.
Of the 44 meetings down the years:
Latics have 16 wins, Bury 18, draws 13.
The first meeting between the two clubs was at Springfield Park in November 1978, a second round FA cup tie ended 2-2, Latics lost the replay three days later at Gigg Lane 4-1.
The last meeting between the two clubs was the FA cup 1st round tie back in November at Gigg Lane, goals from Tom Pope, Danny Mayor, Nathan Cameron and Leon Clarke saw the Shakers send the Latics tumbling out of the second cup competition this campaign. Hopefully we can ‘shake’ off their bogey team tag, it is 16 years since we beat them, and get all the points on Saturday to consolidate our place in the automatic promotion spots.
