Latics travel to the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday to face Cardiff City in a Championship fixture.

Although the two clubs met last season in the FA Cup 5th round, it will be the first league meeting between the two sides since April 9th 2005, when a goal apiece from Jason Roberts and Alan Mahon gave the Latics a 2-0 away win at Ninian Park.

The clubs have met a total of 23 times, Latics have 10 wins, Cardiff 4, draws 9

The two clubs first met back in 1982 in the old Division Three, with the Latics losing that encounter 3-2. All the previous meetings, except for last season’s cup game, have been in the league and all but four came in one of the bottom two divisions. Three of the four defeats for the Latics happened in Cardiff, but you need to go back to 1997 for the last defeat, which was at Springfield Park.
